Active year-round but in winter they stay under the snow in rock piles and feed on stored food that they have dried in the sun during the summer. Totally cute. The price I pay is that I’m sometimes forced to go out of my way to find a campground that has space. I occasionally have to settle for overflow campgrounds. These are are open when all of the other campgrounds in the vicinity are full. Overflow campgrounds are generally quite rudimentary, sometimes only a gravel pit parking area with pit toilets. I don’t mind occasionally staying in overflow campgrounds because I’m often only in need of a place to sleep for the night and I depart early the next morning.
